Mastitis Treatment

Are you breastfeeding?

The breastfeeding journey can be an amazing experience but not always a simple one. Mastitis blocked ducts, and breast engorgement affects 1 in 5 breastfeeding women. These are common reasons mums stop breastfeeding sooner than planned.

What is Mastitis?

Mastitis is an inflammatory condition of the breast caused by blocked milk ducts. It usually presents with redness, pain, fever and feeling unwell. The blockage usually leads to a small lump in the breast which can be tender and red.

What does treatment involve?

Therapeutic ultrasound uses micro-massage and heat to help open the milk ducts and encourage circulation to improve flow through the blocked duct. Our physios are trained to use therapeutic ultrasound and will provide individualised advice. In most cases, improvement in symptoms is seen within 2-3 sessions.
